About this product

Product Information

"Monster Hunter" is a game that will occupy countless hours of your time with fun, excitement, and combat challenges. This single-player action role-playing game from Capcom lets you explore a world full of beasts, hunters, and glory. Set off for an adventure firsthand through the realm that demands you hone your skills for survival. Not only do you have to defeat monsters, but you must also achieve the highest hunter rank possible."Monster Hunter" was released by Capcom for the PlayStation 2 in late 2004. You play as a new hunter climbing the ranks, and your one path to glory is paved by successfully completing quests. The monstrous creatures you hunt down can be carved up and used for armor, weapons, and other items you need to survive and explore. The "Monster Hunter" games offer you a way to escape from the modern world and real life by taking part in a fully immersive action-packed world.Quests are provided in the game by elders or individual town guilds and are divided into three types. The majority of the missions in this game are classified as Hunting Quests. In these quests, the game sends you to hunt down enemies after tracking, exploring, and provoking them. A Gathering Quest has you collect herbs, items, or monster parts as per the request of the quest-giver. Lastly, a Capture Quest is a bit more tricky, as these quests require you to weaken and capture your prey instead of killing them. There are two different ranks possible in the "Monster Hunter" game for the PS2. The Blademasters and Gunners offer drastically different combat styles, different sub-weapon types, and exciting ways to tackle the game's challenges. As a Blademaster, players can explore the game with a great sword, lance, hammer, of other traditional medieval weaponry. They can also be charged with different elements and status effects to manipulate the weaknesses of your enemies. Gunners can use light or heavy bow guns to take down their foes from a distance with hard-hitting combat or swift, debilitating attacks. Unlike other action role-playing games, the player isn't limited in the arms they use or how they use them. You can equip and wield whatever weapon you wish to use, provided you have the money to pay for it and the supplies to manage it.Get creative and develop custom male or female characters armed with advanced weaponry that can conquer all of the giant creatures of this Sony PlayStation game. Then, when you feel brave enough, you can battle monsters to gather new equipment, unlock materials, and create new combinations. All of this can be used to make the ultimate battle-ready character or team. Utilize the game's intuitive role-playing navigation to explore the monsters' world and take on new challenges. Go ahead and equip players to fight monsters of increasing strength as skills are learned and tools are unlocked. This action role-playing game is designed for compelling play and timeless action. "Monster Hunter" for the PlayStation 2 is rated T for blood, the use of alcohol, and violence.

Not what I would call factory sealed. Third-party game case, only the outer cover of the manual, and re-shrink wrapped. Disc was basically new though, so that was nice.

    Great buy

I've loved this game for over 10 years. It has such a fun and customizable gameplay but is so hard to find. I'm. Very satisfied with this buy.

    Consider this before purchasing

This is where Capcom's record breaking franchise all began, and it has become a piece of gaming history. Unfortunately that means very little when it comes to game play. This is unlike the other games in the franchise, most notably in the way it controls. You do not attack with face buttons like in later entries, but rather you move the right thumbstick to slice and stab away. It's sound cool in theory, but it is cumbersome in practice. Beyond that the A.I is brutal. It's not that it is particularly difficult in combat, but that it is frustrating in how often the enemy decides to run away. These monsters run away so fast it would make Scooby-Doo jealous. With all of that out of the way it is still a fun game as long as you can look past the dated mechanics.

  • Monster Hunter for PS2

So far I have only just begun this game, but find it rather interesting. Much like Capcom's Resident Evil game you can mix herbs and berries to create other things(like health packs), but Monster Hunter gives you the ability to create and upgrade weapons with items found as well. The opening sequence was absolutely astounding by PS2 standards and it has only gotten better from there. You can customize your character male or female as well as skin tone. The map is arranged in separate zones which allowed them to focus on details in smaller areas. Sure this means more loading as you travel about, but for how good the graphics are the wait is not bad. I have only played a couple hours but can already tell this one is a keeper. If you get your hands on it you are most likely going ...

  • Puff the Magic Dragon, Meet My Sword!

Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: JLR Have you ever looked down the blade of a sword, only to see a Dragon the size of small building staring back? This is just one of the situations you will find yourself facing in Capcom's Monster Hunter. To start, the graphics in this game are some of the most believable in a game to date. The environments are a decent size, broken up into about 8-12 small area's. But the way Capcom has done it, you get the feeling you are truly in an expansive world. Subtle things like the rolling clouds, or the billowing smoke of an active volcano, just add to an already immersive experience. Gameplay may be the drawback for some, as the control scheme can take some getting used to, and may frustrate the novice. The unique thing about this game, is ...
